Branding 101

by Tina Slav on May 27 2021
So you want to be a streamer, eh? Anyone can boot up a camera and start dunking on kids, but to get noticed it'll take more than tea-bags and massive plays. So let's talk about branding; one of the foundational steps to building a presence. Branding not only sets you apart from the masses of other gun toting, platform jumping, speed-running entertainers out there, but galvanizes the community you've garnered, your community, to an identity. Proper branding is no easy feat, and you could take an entire master-class on this, so to keep things short we'll go over 5 key points from a very high level view.   Step 1: Find a Theme Find something that you identify with. Something that you could talk all day about and makes you "you". It doesn't matter if it's been done before (everything's been done before), what matters is it's something you can find passion in. When you're truly into something, when you're in your element and you don't have to fake it, that's when you shine brightest. People can tell. This will let your community know who you are and always give everyone common ground to communicate about. Step 2: Put a Name To It Give a name to both yourself, your channel, and your community. This will, of course, follow your theme for brand coherence (so please don’t call yourself Kevin and the Kevinites unless your theme is for some reason just the name Kevin or you're trying to make some weird 90s band). Having a home, a group, a tribe that you can reference by name brings people together and forms an identity. You'll find those who are like minded and more likely to come back, rather than random viewers who may never care to show again. Step 3: Choose Some Colors This may seem silly, but visual recognition of color patterns is huge for identifying a brand. So choose two or three colors you want to be yours! These theme colors will be just as recognizable and synonymous with your stream as the community name you gave yourself (again, hopefully not Kevin and the Kevinites). This will also bring cohesion to the art done for your channel, marketing deck, merch, and other promotional opportunities. I'm not saying you can only ever use those colors of course, but they should be easily tied to your brand through your logo and other methods. Step 4: Get Art Just by investing a small amount in art for overlays, a logo, possibly some emotes or panels, bumps the quality of your presentation up drastically! Now you may ask, "Hey magical stream guru writing this, where do I go to find art?!" Honestly by just googling "stream overlays" or "influencer art and logos" you'll find so many great ideas on what you might be looking for, along with several sites that can provide intro art for a very low price. However, you'll always find the best quality by just putting a call out on Twitter. That's right, Twitter. There are tons of artists on Twitter and many do commissions on a regular basis. Step 5: Claim Your Name On every social media, on every streaming site, on every content creating outlet you need to claim your branded name/handle. Even if you don’t intend on ever using those avenues for outreach and creation, it’s important to claim your brand on each so that no one else does. If everything goes well and you become the next Ninjavalkyraeshroudpokimane, you don’t want others to pose as you under your branding. In fact, who knows what opportunities other social media platforms hold. These quick steps can all be done in less than a day, and will dramatically increase your chances to stand out. Not everything is set in stone either, so play around with what you feel is right, use this as a guideline, and make your brand yours!   Article by -Tachyon

Top 5 Movie Adaptations of Video Games

by Tina Slav on Apr 08 2021
With the action packed, gore-fueled announcement of the new Mortal Kombat movie coming this April, I suddenly found myself giddy with all the enthusiasm of a McFlurry toting 90s child making his way to a questionably sanitary ball pit. The movie looks good. I mean, Real Good. So I find myself wondering just what were the best video game movies ever made. It took me all weekend, but with the sacrifice of my entirely non-existent social life, I put together the top 5 cinematic video game adaptations of all time. 5 - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010) With a star-studded cast and visibly high levels of production value, Disney threw their hat into the ring and didn’t do half bad. This was no Indiana Jones, but the sand swept adventure was engaging if only in an endearing manner. All in all, I’m not sure how well they captured the inherent solitude of the original games, but I enjoyed it. My girlfriend only agreed to go because she had a crush on Donnie Darko.   4 - Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005) Final Fantasy VII was the Michael Jordan free throw line dunk of the JRPG genre: beautiful, timeless, and known worldwide (yes, it’s a sportsball metaphor). EVERYONE wanted to see and learn more about what happened to Cloud and his companions, even people like me that didn’t have a Playstation. In 2005 we got that, and though it left more questions than answers, most of us figuratively lost our proverbial minds when One Winged Angel began to play. In a good way.   3 - Pokemon: The First Movie (1998) Also known as Pokemon The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back (which definitely fits on a billboard and rolls right off the tongue) was a staple for most childhood gamers from the 90s era. The cheese in this movie is at such extraordinary levels it could make a cow lactose intolerant, and my lord it didn’t make much sense for any stretch of the imagination... But you’d be lying if you said this movie didn’t make you tear up with arguably the most iconic power-of-friendship scenes known to human history. Historic.   2 - Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) We all know the famous STH debacle regarding a certain frighteningly humanoid, blue-haired rodent, the extraordinary levels of crunch time that followed a redesign announcement, and white teeth that still haunt my dreams to this day, but somehow Paramount did it. Against all odds, they put together an oddly endearing movie that both parents and children celebrated, while somehow not upsetting fans in deviating pretty far from the major plot points outlined in the original games. Honestly, if you can keep the hardcore fans happy, especially Sonic fans, it means you’ve accomplished something worthy of historic praise.   1 - Mortal Kombat (1995) I know, I know: there’s a new one coming out soon AND some of the animated ones have a superior story. But the ‘95 original Mortal Kombat movie was arguably the first live action video game adaptation without utterly laughable plot points, and a storyboard geared towards kids. This movie set the stage for a darker, more adult friendly formula that parents would actually want to bring their kids to, leading to movies such as Wing Commander, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil. With an absolutely dynamite soundtrack, the mix of action, adventure, and comedy forged the first semi-serious cinematic adaptation that could stand the test of time.   This is all, of course, opinion and whichever movies you find bring joy into your heart, are the ones for you. I’ve also not watched every video game movie ever made, so there may be some movies you feel should be on the list but didn’t make it. Either way, my opinion is awesome and so are these movies.   Article by Tachyon

The Kawaii style gaming room should include your gaming items in pastel colors - pink, green, blue etc. As you can see in the picture above, the Techni Sport Kawaii gaming chair matches the colors of the bedsheets and all the toys. Make sure to buy all your gaming peripherals in the same color palette. In case you can't find pastel colors monitor or keyboard, then you could even use stickers or paint it in a "dyi" fashion.

There are many ways your mobile gaming experience can be improved. Although we ran through a list of 8, there are a couple more great ones to utilize. We discussed some of the points we think are the best. The best method is not to rely on your device’s speakers. They won’t provide an immersive experience as headphones or earphones, no matter how loud they are. When it comes to the tech, pick something wireless. When you’re playing games where you have to rapidly move your device, having a cord on your it doesn’t help.

4 signs it's time for a New Gaming Chair

by Tina Slav on Aug 13 2020

Having the right work/gaming chair is extremely important to everyone's health and wellbeing. When you sit for long hours to either work or play some videogames, your chair can make or break your day, literally your body and back. Let's look into these four signs that your chair might not pass the test.     #1. Your chair is held together by tape or glue If you found the need to place glue or tape on your chair to make it work, that is the first sign that you need a replacement! The seat may have rips or cracks; the armrests might be missing, tilted, or held on by magic. If your beloved chair exhibits any of those symptoms, it's time to let it go! Invest in a new chair that will provide you with the support and features you can benefit from.    #2. Your chair seat or cushion changed its original shape Does your seat hold the form of your body when you stand up? If that is the case, you can use an upgrade! Some chair materials tend to flatten or wear off after time, and once the foam has taken a permanent shape different than the original form, it's time to part ways and pick a new one.    #3. The longer you sit, the more it hurts Sitting for prolonged periods can damage your body. If your extended sitting hours come with widespread pain, it's time for a change. It is crucial to choose a chair that correctly supports your body throughout the day. Opt-in for a chair specially designed for lower back support with adjustability to keep you in an upright position, not slouched over.   #4. Your productive levels have decreased Experiencing constant aches and pains can harm your work or your gaming performance. If you catch yourself ready to stop your work halfway, you might suffer from a case of an uncomfortable seat. The discomfort that a poorly made chair brings can be very distracting and negatively affects your work or even gaming performance. When you sit in a chair that supports your body, you can experience increased energy and productivity.    If you have been experiencing any of the above symptoms, it is a good sign that you might be due for a new seat. Do your research, explore the gaming chair market, and find the best gaming seat for your body type. Don't hesitate and invest in a comfortable chair that will provide you with a fantastic sitting experience and uplifting productivity.

What is next for Mixer streamers?

What happens when your favorite streaming platform suddenly shuts down? Or even worse - what happens when you have built a brand and large following on that platform? Where do you go next, and how do you take your audience with you? Today we will look into the process of transitioning out of Mixer into the other choices on the streaming market. Why is Mixer Shutting Down? For many people in the game streaming space, it was not a secret that Mixer wasn't doing great over the last two years. The news about the Mixer shutdown was somewhat anticipated, but it still hurts to see it happen. It looks like the reasons behind this decision are mixed. The low engagement rate, combined with the high competition and mediocre financials of the platform, led to its decision to secure Facebook funding and explore new business horizons.  Twitch vs Youtube Gaming vs Facebook Gaming? Facebook Gaming is a relatively new gaming and streaming outlet but can utilize the existing network from Facebook. For most people looking to be able to have fun while streaming and quickly monetize their accounts, Facebook can prove to be an excellent choice. Youtube Gaming takes advantage of Google Algorithms and can provide great SEO tools, plus search visibility. On the other hand, Twitch has been the Go-To Gaming Platform, and most people are already familiar with it, making the transition a lot easier.  How to move your streaming account to a new platform? 1) Plan and strategize It is always a great idea to sit down and plan your strategy for growing a new account. The good thing is, you already have the experience in developing a streaming community on Mixer, and you can utilize those skills to rebuild everything from scratch, even better. Remember that a building is as secure as its foundation, so make sure you plan and calculate how you will tackle that task. We recommend writing it down and following a well-structured plan. 2) Follow your crowd Many of the Techni Sport Influencers have been streaming on Mixer and have been loyal to their program. Unfortunately, now everyone has to choose to move to either Twitch, Youtube, or Facebook Gaming. With Ninja, Shroud, and all the other large streamers having to make the choice themselves, it will be an interesting process to see. We are about to witness a battle between the big streaming platforms to acquire the most influential names in our industry. For everyone else, we have already noticed a trend happening across the board. Streamers tend to wait and see where the people they look up to, will go next. Another way to look at this process is as if it was a pyramidal structure, where the largest streamers are followed by medium-size streamers, who indeed are followed by the smaller and beginner streamers. That is also how the streaming space grew to be known for its supportive, loyal community. We hope to see this space preserving this collective spirit, and grow even stronger in the future. 3) Shoutout your new streamer link everywhere Sharing your streamer links has always been a big part of growing your account. Don't be shy to post your new link on all of your social media channels. Use your bio and simply replace your old link with the new one. Then make sure you add to your stories about your transition and notify all of your followers. They should know you are leaving Mixer and where you are going. You can also use the opportunity to shoutout your new streamer link on other people's posts, but make sure they have asked for it first.  Conclusion Whichever exit strategy you chose, make sure you weigh your options and make it a smooth transition. Twitch has the advantage of being the largest gaming platform, and Youtube has a robust massive infrastructure and robust algorithms. Facebook Gaming is up and coming and has the potential to compete on a high level, as it is the world's largest social network. Whichever platform you chose to move next should be the right decision. Just plan and execute! Best of luck to everyone with their next move.  Leave a comment below if you have any tips on making this transition easier and more successful.

Pro gamers seem to have an exceptional, almost superhuman understanding of the rules of the game. It comes to them as an instinct and is referred to as "game sense". The gaming instinct is mostly built by spending endless hours of playing while gaining game knowledge and growing your experience history. Excellence can be accomplished by studying tips and tricks on how to pass different levels in various games and later on, practicing them yourself. You likely know that already and you do it all, but your progress isn't as quick as you wish it to be. Do you wonder why this is happening and how can you reach the pro level even faster?

How to successfully interact with your streaming audience?

by Tina Slav on May 08 2020
Image by @walkerg12    In this post, we will look into the importance of good audience interaction during a stream. We will explore different ways to be better at it and learn some ideas from the best streamers out there. Let's dive in and discover the hot tips and tricks to be great at interacting with your stream chat.  Read the comments and respond to as many as you can The best streamers we've seen are excellent at interacting with their audience and making it seem fluent and casual. Have you ever seen the chat rooms of Ninja or Shroud? They've mastered the art of following through fast-flying comments, and so can you. Starting with a small audience gives you proper training to learn the following and reading the ever-growing comment section in your channel. A great tip is to add a chat monitor. You can pick one of a smaller size or a flipped monitor to 90 degrees, which makes it easier to read the chat room. Place it side by side with your gaming monitor, so you don't forget to keep an eye on it and respond to your most active followers.  Start with bots and progress to mods Sometimes there will be comments that come off as toxic or simply uncomfortable to answer. At first, you can set up bots to take care of abusive content and make sure they keep your channel clean. You can use the pre-packed bots in different software platforms, like Steramlabs. Add automated messages for chat interaction like in-chat games or notifications about the brands you are affiliated with. As your channel grows, you will be able to find people who would be interested in moderating your chat room, and your streaming life will get much easier with the real-time support mods provide. Learn how to make chat interaction seem casual Spend some time watching the biggest streamers. You'll be able to recognize how they involve the audience in the chatter and the madness of the gameplay. It's essential to make your chat feel like an organic interaction, that is enjoyable for an audience member. Your chat has to feel like they are contributing actively to the story. That is what makes people want to follow you and log back on. If they feel like they are genuinely part of the fun, they are more likely going to be joining the conversation and to be coming back for more. When you barely acknowledge people in the chat or disregard donations and the like, people will switch off soon. Our final thoughts Remember that you want to be building a loyal community of people who come back and genuinely enjoy every part of your gaming commentary. It would be best if they interact with each other and are all looking forward to hanging out together in your "going live" time. That is indeed the essence of building a loyal audience that will keep supporting you as you grow.
